About the Role

We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, modification, and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, 3D CAD modelling, engineering drawings, materials, manufacturing processes, and fabrication methods.

The candidate will work closely with the design, production, purchase, and quality teams to develop practical and manufacturable designs.

Key Responsibilities

1\. Mechanical Design \& Development

• Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and mechanical components.
• Develop concepts based on design requirements and specifications.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings with dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
• Modify existing designs based on engineering or production requirements.
• Assist senior engineers in developing new products and improving existing designs.
• Ensure designs are practical, reliable, and suitable for manufacturing.

2\. CAD \& Engineering Documentation

• Prepare accurate 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Maintain proper revision control of drawings and design files.
• Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM) and related engineering documentation.
• Maintain organized design data and technical documentation.
• Incorporate engineering changes into drawings and models.

3\. Manufacturing Support

• Coordinate with the production team to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
• Understand manufacturing processes such as sheet\-metal fabrication, laser cutting, machining, welding, bending, and assembly.
• Modify designs to improve manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
• Assist in resolving dimensional, fitment, and assembly issues.
• Visit the production floor when required to understand practical manufacturing requirements.

4\. Materials \& Components

• Select suitable materials based on application and manufacturing requirements.
• Understand basic properties and applications of stainless steel, aluminium, mild steel, and engineering plastics.
• Assist in selecting standard mechanical components and hardware.
• Ensure correct material specifications are mentioned in drawings and BOMs.

5\. Design Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve existing designs.
• Work on cost reduction, weight reduction, ease of manufacturing, and ease of assembly.
• Analyze design issues and propose practical solutions.
• Support prototype development and testing.
• Incorporate feedback from production, quality, and service teams.

Required Skills \& Qualifications

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 0–2 years of experience in mechanical design preferred.
• Freshers with strong CAD and mechanical fundamentals may also apply.
• Good knowledge of Fusion 360, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of GD\&T and dimensional tolerances preferred.
• Understanding of basic mechanical engineering principles.
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Good problem\-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and coordination skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with sheet\-metal design.
• Knowledge of CNC machining and fabrication.
• Understanding of welding and mechanical assemblies.
• Knowledge of standard fasteners, bearings, shafts, couplings, motors, and other mechanical components.
• Experience preparing BOMs and manufacturing drawings.
• Basic knowledge of DFM/DFA – Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is an advantage.
