Job Description – Mechanical Fitter / Welder

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and hands\-on Mechanical Fitter / Welder to carry out mechanical fitting, fabrication, welding, assembly, and related shop\-floor activities.

The ideal candidate should be able to understand basic engineering drawings, work accurately with hand and power tools, perform quality welding and fitting work, and ensure that assemblies are properly aligned and finished.

Key Responsibilities

1\. Mechanical Fitting \& Assembly

• Perform mechanical fitting and assembly work as per drawings and instructions.
• Assemble components using appropriate hand tools and power tools.
• Perform drilling, grinding, cutting, tapping, filing, and other fitting operations.
• Check dimensions, alignment, clearances, and fitment during assembly.
• Identify and report dimensional or assembly issues.

2\. Welding \& Fabrication

• Perform MIG, TIG, and/or ARC welding as required.
• Weld components according to drawings and required specifications.
• Carry out tack welding, final welding, and fabrication work.
• Ensure proper weld quality, strength, alignment, and appearance.
• Perform grinding and finishing of welded joints.
• Identify welding defects and carry out necessary corrections.

3\. Engineering Drawing \& Measurement

• Read and understand basic mechanical and fabrication drawings.
• Follow dimensions, tolerances, and assembly instructions.
• Use measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, measuring tapes, micrometers, and other basic tools.
• Ensure components are fabricated and assembled according to specified dimensions.

4\. Shop Floor Work

• Follow daily work assignments given by the supervisor.
• Complete assigned work within the required timeline.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and organization of the work area.
• Handle tools, equipment, and materials responsibly.
• Coordinate with other production workers during fabrication and assembly.

5\. Quality \& Safety

• Maintain required quality standards in fitting, welding, and assembly.
• Inspect work before handing it over to the next production stage.
• Follow all required workplace safety procedures.
• Use appropriate PPE and safety equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, or equipment problems immediately.

Required Skills \& Qualifications

• ITI / Diploma in Fitter, Welder, or related trade preferred.
• Relevant experience in mechanical fitting, welding, or fabrication preferred.
• Practical knowledge of welding and fabrication processes.
• Ability to read basic engineering drawings.
• Ability to use common hand tools and power tools.
• Basic knowledge of measurement and dimensional inspection.
• Physically fit and comfortable working on the shop floor.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminium fabrication.
• TIG welding experience preferred.
• MIG/ARC welding experience.
• Experience with sheet\-metal and structural fabrication.
• Good understanding of mechanical assemblies.
• Ability to identify and correct fitting and welding defects.

Salary

Up to ₹25,000 per month, depending on experience, welding/fitting skills, technical ability, and overall suitability for the role.
