Job Description
**Senior Microbiologist – Poultry Breeder Farm Laboratory:**
The Senior Microbiologist will lead the farm laboratory operations, focusing on disease diagnosis, microbial surveillance, and biosecurity support for broiler breeder flocks. This role ensures timely detection of pathogens, accurate reporting, and guidance for preventive and corrective measures to safeguard flock health and farm productivity.
Key Responsibilities
* **Laboratory Management**
* Supervise daily microbiological testing (bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic pathogens).
* Ensure proper sample collection, handling, and processing from breeder flocks (swabs, fecal samples, water, feed).
* Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment (incubators, PCR machines, ELISA kits, microscopes).
* **Disease Diagnosis \& Surveillance**
* Conduct culture, sensitivity, and molecular diagnostics for poultry pathogens.
* Monitor antimicrobial resistance trends and advise on rational antibiotic use.
* Develop and implement flock health monitoring protocols.
* Biosecurity \& Compliance
* Support farm biosecurity programs with microbial risk assessments.
* Ensure compliance with national and international poultry health standards.
* Prepare documentation for audits, certifications, and regulatory inspections..
* Collaborate with veterinary and nutrition teams to integrate findings into farm practices.
* Develop rapid diagnostic kits and innovative monitoring tools.
* **Team Leadership**
* Train and mentor junior microbiologists, technicians, and farm staff on sampling and hygiene practices.
* Coordinate with farm managers and veterinarians for integrated disease management.
Qualifications
* Master’s/PhD in Microbiology, Veterinary Microbiology, or related discipline.
* Minimum 7–10 years of experience in poultry or livestock microbiology labs.
* Strong expertise in molecular diagnostics (PCR, ELISA) and classical microbiology.
* **Familiarity with poultry farm operations, breeder flock management, and biosecurity protocols.**
