About the Role
Sambodhi Retreat, located in the sacred town of Bodh Gaya, welcomes pilgrims, international travellers and leisure guests throughout the year. We are looking for a capable and people-focused HR Manager to lead all human resource functions of the property, build a motivated and service-oriented team, and ensure compliance with labour laws while upholding the warm hospitality our guests expect.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment and Onboarding
- Plan manpower requirements with department heads and manage the full recruitment cycle: sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection and joining.
- Build relationships with hotel management institutes and local talent pools in Bihar for regular and seasonal hiring.
- Conduct induction and orientation for new employees covering company policies, grooming standards and service culture.
- Maintain accurate employee files, appointment letters and joining documentation.
2. Payroll, Attendance and Compensation
- Oversee monthly payroll processing, attendance, leave and overtime records, and ensure timely, accurate salary disbursement.
- Manage statutory deductions and benefits, including PF, ESI, gratuity and bonus.
- Review salary structures and benchmark against the local hospitality market.
3. Statutory and Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, including the Shops and Establishments Act, Minimum Wages Act, PF/ESI regulations and contract labour requirements.
- Maintain statutory registers, returns and records, and coordinate with auditors and government authorities when required.
- Handle disciplinary matters, grievances and exit formalities fairly and in line with company policy and law.
4. Training and Development
- Identify training needs and run programmes on guest service, grooming, communication, fire safety, hygiene and POSH awareness.
- Develop on-the-job training plans, cross-training and career-growth paths for associates.
- Track training effectiveness and its impact on guest satisfaction scores.
5. Performance Management
- Implement and monitor a structured appraisal system with clear KPIs for each department.
- Support managers in goal-setting, feedback and performance improvement plans.
- Design recognition programmes such as Employee of the Month and service awards.
6. Employee Engagement and Welfare
- Foster a positive, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
- Organise staff engagement activities, festival celebrations and wellness initiatives.
- Oversee staff accommodation, uniforms, staff meals and other welfare facilities.
- Act as the point of contact for employee concerns, ensuring prompt and confidential resolution.
7. HR Policy, Planning and Reporting
- Draft, update and enforce HR policies, SOPs and the employee handbook.
- Monitor attrition, absenteeism and manpower cost, and present monthly HR reports to management.
- Control departmental budgets and support cost-effective staffing.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: MBA (preferably in Human Resource Management); this is the minimum highest qualification required.
- Experience: 4–5 years of relevant HR experience in hotels, resorts or the wider hospitality industry, with at least 1–2 years in an executive or managerial role.
- Working knowledge of Indian labour laws and statutory compliance.
- Prior experience of payroll processing and HRMS or hotel-industry HR software is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in Hindi and English; knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.
- Sound judgement in conflict resolution, negotiation and handling sensitive matters.
- Good leadership, organisational and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and HR software.
- Ability to work in a 24x7 hospitality environment and manage seasonal peaks in Bodh Gaya's tourist season.
